We’ve got two massive stories in PCPP#219! Total War: Rome II takes us back to the highlight of The Creative Assembly’s grand strategy series and gives us more detail, a greater scale and intricate new mechanics that change the strategic possibilities. Our hands-on time with the game tells all!

We’ve also got the first look at The Sims 4 in action! Find out how Maxis is breathing new life into the insanely addictive people simulator by infusing the Sims themselves with lifelike emotions that allow for emergent play. Plus, it’s singleplayer and offline!

This issue is also PCPP’s first ever Strategy Special! We’ve got the latest on Command & Conquer, Maia, Satellite Reign, Stronghold Crusader 2 and more! We also revisit Civilization V: Brave New World and explore the radical new Venice faction.

The Strategy Special continues into this issue’s reviews, kicking off with the next big Valve game:DOTA 2. We’ve also got Shadowrun Returns, Endless Space Disharmony, Rise of the Triad, Jagged Alliance Online and more!

Tech takes a tweaker’s look at the sub-$60 system, the Raspberry Pi. Find out how you can turn this tiny computer into a media box, and emulator, and more. Full DIY tutorials included! We also speak to NVIDIA about the impending next-gen console launch and how that will affect PC gaming, review the MSI Wind AG2712 all-in-one system, whilst The Bunker explores the art of chasing world records in competitive extreme overclocking!

On the disc is the full version of DOTA 2. That’s right – Valve’s next game, on the disc, for free! Perhaps you could be the next winner of the 1.4 million dollar championship. Plus, the full version of Jagged Alliance Online, a massive demo of Civilization V: Brave New World, and over 20 minutes of HD gameplay footage of Total War: Rome II!

Finally, this issue also includes our annual Education Special! If you’re interested in getting a job in games, this is required reading. Much has changed in the past year, so we speak to a number of graduate students and institutions for a frank and honest discussion about finding the right kind of games education.

It so anoying how everyone points out its so great because its singleplayer offline, some people don’t enjoy sitting pathetically lonely in front of their pc’s not interacting with their friends while enjoying a computer game.

How does the sims4 differs from its previous games? Just new graphics some new features? Online would have made a difference to its previous games, the ability to have real time co-op play by letting friends move into your house, or neighborhood would have made this game something new.

I agree that a multi-player option would be good but ONLY as an option. They killed Simcity 2013 by forcing players to be always online which resulted in a dumbed down game with pathetically smaller cities and, when (not if) the server is down, well, tough luck, eh? I don’t have any RL friends who play the Sims and I see no point in playing with strangers online ;) , so multi-player is useless to me.

You can’t say that it’s no different because it only has new features, and say being online would make it different. Guess what having an online option would be? A new FEATURE. Guess what? New FEATURES is what MAKES A NEW GAME. New FEATURES happen to BE the differences between new iterations. Otherwise, we would just have The (original) Sims being re-released every five years. Plus, I don’t want to be online. I play Sims when I DON’T want to interact with real people. I would have no use for it, and neither would a LOT of other people. Plus, people point out that it’s great that it’s offline because SimCity 2013 was FRIGGIN’ AWFUL, and NO ONE wants to see ANYTHING similar to that mess, which was caused, ALMOST ENTIRELY, by your beloved ONLINE FEATURE. Not trying to be rude, just sayin’…

The Sims 4 looks like it was from The Sims 2 but in 3D, no offence (My opinion) not trying to be mean but being honest instead.

      Hi Niko,

Could you try visiting the DOTA 2 game page in your steam client (http://store.steampowered.com/app/570/) and adding it to your account before Restoring the Backup?

      Cheers
