Third installment of Far Cry franchise in the works; possible Antarctic setting

Far Cry 3: Where no-one can hear you freeze
Big-name developer/publisher Ubisoft have said that Far Cry 3 is already in the planning stages, even though the second game is yet to be released.

Narrative Designer Patrick Redding, from Ubisoft Montreal, said that a locale for the third game hasn't been locked in, but that a return to Africa is a distinct possibility.

"For us, Africa still has a huge amount of promise," Redding told the Web site. "There are still things we want to do with the African setting, and I think it's safe to say we'll continue to explore it." A return to Africa isn't a lock however, as Redding also noted that "we might find something new and compelling about the Antarctic setting that wants us to make the next game there."

While Far Cry 3 has obviously not been given an expected release date yet, the upcoming Far Cry 2 is due within the next couple of months.

Rockstar to release 2006 title on the PC

Damn, my leg's stuck again.
Bully, second cousin to Rockstar's flagship product Grand Theft Auto, has been confirmed for a belated PC Release.

The first tidbit of information was found at the recent Leipzig Games Convention, with a poster of the Bully logo including the words 'Coming Soon for PC' in German.

A Rockstar representative went on to say the game should be expected to ship sometime in late October.

- IGN

The PC version will be called Bully: Scholarship Edition, and looks like shipping with several new missions, and several new classes

The original title, Bully, was released in 2006 on consoles to mostly favourable reviews. The Scholarship Edition will also launch on the PS3, Xbox 360, and the Wii.

Artificial intelligence not so artificial...

Introducing...Frankenrobot!
Scientists from the University of Reading unveiled the world's first robot controlled by living brain tissue on Wednesday.

Gordon, as the robot has been named, is being used to explore the fundamental building blocks of memory and learning, according to one of the researchers.

"Observing how the nerve cells cohere into a network as they fire off electrical impulses, he said, may also help scientists combat neurodegenerative diseases that attack the brain such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

"If we can understand some of the basics of what is going on in our little model brain, it could have enormous medical spinoffs," he said."

- SMH

Gordon, with his brain made up of cultured rat neurons, is able to learn by habit. His 'brain' is housed in a special temperature-controlled unit, which is controlled via Bluetooth. Through this robot, scientists are much closer to determining how memories are actually stored in a biological brain.

Invisibility Cloak: Coming Soon?

Scientists closer in discovering the secret of invisibility

Where's Wally Harry?
Scientists believe they are closer than ever in getting three-dimensional objects to 'disappear'.

Researchers have demonstrated for the first time they were able to cloak three-dimensional objects using artificially engineered materials that redirect light around the objects. Previously, they only have been able to cloak very thin two-dimensional objects.

The new work moves scientists a step closer to hiding people and objects from visible light, which could have broad applications, including military ones.

- SMH

This technology is not to be confused with stealth technology, because while stealth hides objects from radar detection, the 'invisibility cloak' aims to hide objects from the human eye.
