Newest version of popular web browser officially released

Now I have to get it... look at those eyes!
Mozilla has launched the 3rd full release of its flagship web browser, Firefox.

Designed by a community of open-source coders and designers, this newest iteration includes a number of new features, such as a revamped UI and more security protection, as well as the usual avalanche of bug fixes.

Firefox supporters organised launch parties around the world as they tried to set a world record for most software downloads in a 24-hour period.

The category is new, and Guinness World Records must certify it, a process that could take a week or longer.

Mozilla's servers were overloaded at launch time due to the number of users attempting to download the software.

The Firefox web browser is the second most popular in the world, second only to Microsoft's well-entrenched Internet Explorer.

Lonely no more

Not bad for a piece of AI
Japanese company, Sega Toys, has produced a 38 cm tall robotic girlfriend for lonely adult men.

EMA, or Eternal Maiden Actualisation, uses infrared sensors and battery power to sense nearby human heads, so that she can enter 'love mode'. In this mode, she can kiss on command and puckers up for anyone nearby.

"Strong, tough and battle-ready are some of the words often associated with robots, but we wanted to break that stereotype and provide a robot that's sweet and interactive," said Minako Sakanoue, a spokeswoman for the maker, Sega Toys.

"She's very lovable and though she's not a human, she can act like a real girlfriend."

EMA runs on batteries and can also hand out business cards, sing and dance. The robot is expected to go on sale in September and will retail for approximately $175.

Gaming takes up too much energy

Game consoles more hungry than PCs

This? On our consoles and PCs?!?
A Choice Magazine study has found that game consoles burn more energy than a medium-sized fridge. The magazine also suggested that computers and related products, be subject to the energy rating star system.

The average desktop PC, minus its monitor, was placed third on the list of top energy consumers.

Choice spokesman Christopher Zinn said he hoped the results of the study would be eye-opening for the public.

"While we hope no one actually leaves their games console on for a whole year 24/7, the figures are indicative of just how much electricity these small devices can chew their way through," Mr Zinn said.

Today's lesson: unplug consoles when not in use.

Spies never get old. James Bond has proved that there's something about this particular occupation that continues to resonate, regardless of time period. Spycraft: The Great Game is likewise, a timeless classic. Sure, the low res chafes a bit, and the acting, by today's lofty standards, can seem a bit hokey, but it is still a blast. Combining tedious detective legwork, and tension filled moments at both ends of a gun, Spycraft brings you as close as a gamer has ever gotten to living the life of a real spy. And by the end of the game, you're guaranteed to be feeling like one.
