Infinity Ward confirms CoD4

It's a battle of the acronyms: will CoD4 be a BF2 killer?
Those impatient devs at Infinity Ward couldn't keep it under their hats any longer: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is currently in development.

ESPN viewers will get the first taste of CoD4 as a teaser video will run during the airing of the NFL Draft proceedings. While it has been confirmed for US and Euro ESPN viewers, there is no word on whether the teaser will make it into the Aussie broadcast.

While I was all for keeping the suspense going right up until Saturday, the cat is out of the bag, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has been announced, but thats not the BIG part. The fact that I'm excited about, is not only is it announced today, but it will be revealed (thats right, I'm talking FIRST LOOK) this Saturday during the NFL Draft (also online during TBA).

I won't ruin the surprise, and give any details away about what you'll see, but trust me.... you won't be disappointed.

The Info:

This Saturday, April 28th 2007, will be the worldwide reveal and first look at Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Tune into the ESPN NFL Draft during 10 AM PST / 1 PM EST to be among the first to view the trailer, which will be immediately available online afterwards with a little extra surprise for your viewing pleasure.

Thanks to all that messy timezone business, us Aussies would do well to keep our eyes on the internet on Sunday (damn those Yanks for being a day behind), as IW unleashes the video online following the ESPN broadcast.

Parachuting onto your PC this August

"Um, what exactly are you shooting at?"
Gamespot has shed a little light on Medal of Honor: Airborne. The anticipated next chapter of the Medal of Honor saga has been the victim of revolving door release dates, but the game's hot new trailer shows that EA is gearing up to launch this WWII beast on August 28.

Airborne will let players step into the combat boots of Boyd Travers, a Private in the 82nd Airbone as he experiences the horrors of parachuting into many of the pivotal campaigns of the war. One mission will see players take part in Operation Varsity, which saw 30,000 soldiers parachuting into Germany in the single largest military airdrop in history.

Show off Gordon's new ride

Got your motor running?
This week's Steam marketing message revealed some further details on the highly anticipated -- and often delayed -- Half Life 2: Episode 2.

Three new pictures show early concept images of Gordon's new muscle car-inspired vehicle that will be making its debut in Episode 2. While the vehicle itself has been made known, the capacity in which it will be used is still being kept under wraps.

Half-Life 2: Episode 2 is being playtested here at Valve regularly now, and one of the pieces of the game that's getting strong reactions from our testers is driving the game's new vehicle. This thing's got some major horsepower.

Gears of War on PC? "Eventually"

Fri, 16 February 2007

It's a question of "when" not "if"...

Coming to your PC sooner or later
After months of speculation on whether Gears of War will ever grace the hard drives of PC users, Epic VP Mark Rein has given a coy, yet semi-firm confirmation that the game will make it to the PC format... eventually.

The admission was made during an interview with Team Xbox. After reaffirming the title as an Xbox exclusive, Rein slipped in this little comment:

People ask me, "Are you going to do it on PC?" Yeah, eventually... I don't think that's any great secret that we would like to do it on PC, but for now it's a 360 game. Eventually we'll get around to a PC version. I just don't know when.

That's worked successfully for Halo. Halo was a big seller on PC long after it kind of peaked on the original Xbox, and they're doing the same thing now with Halo 2. We work at the pleasure of a publisher who thinks both of those are their platforms, so I think it's ultimately inevitable, and obviously we're a PC company.

The big challenge is to make a game that was designed solely for the console... to take advantage of every last little corner of that console, to fill every little crack and run as many threads as we could and do as much to exploit the power of that machine, and make it run well on enough PCs to be worth releasing. That's a challenge. UT will help us there, because Unreal Tournament 3 will be kind of our vanguard PC product, and it's helping us get optimization on the PC. So it's just a matter of, now, can we make Gears run on enough PCs that it's worth selling... or do we have to wait in five years until everyone has a PC that can run it?

It's inevitable, but it's just not there today.

- Team Xbox

So now that we have some semi-solid evidence of a port to PC, the question becomes "when will we see it?" Check out the Team Xbox website to read the full Q&A with Mark Rein.
