New update and new maps for SiN Episodes: Emergence
 Blade takes a trip through Wonderland
Along with the usual fixes one can expect from any patch, Ritualistic have included three new Arena mode maps with its latest SiN Episodes update.
"The Pit" is a map sourced from the construction zone found in the singleplayer mode, while "Vertigo" and "Behind Zee Beaker" are completely original maps. "Vertigo" puts the player in a high rise skyscraper, while "Behind Zee Beaker" shrinks them to the size of an insect where they must battle similar sized SinTek henchman in a science lab.

- Added confirmation prompt when deleting Arena Mode scores
- Added opt-out stats collection for the regular campaign on the main menu
- Added foreign translations for Arena Mode dialogs
- Fixed issue where all secrets could not be collected in final map
- Fixed issue where context look triggers could get "stuck" and the context look icon would appear for the remainder of the level
- Fixed issue where Arena Mode rounds would end approximately 2 seconds too early
- Fixed issue where players could be killed after the "Game Over" screen in Arena Mode
- Fixed issue where stats exported to HTML from an Arena Mode game were incorrect
- Fixed issue where players would get stats credited for the actions of NPC's
- Fixed issue where subtitles would not appear during all of the "Next Episode" preview
- Fixed issue where mutagenic gas would cause screen to black out on Radeon 9000, 9200 and 9250 series cards
- Fixed issue where player could not turn left or right using the keyboard without disabling the mouse

Team Fortress goes to the Source

Team Fortress clones are a dime a dozen, undoubtedly a testament to the popularity of the fast, furious and - most importantly - fun gameplay delivered by the class-based mod. As a youth, I wasted countless hours playing Team Fortress Classic for Half-Life, back in an era when you either played Team Fortress Classic or Counter Strike - you HAD to pick a side. Before the word "noob" was bandied about by complete and utter tossers. Back when "Steam" was the vapour phase of water, not a content delivery system. Ah, the memories.
Fans craving some old school Team Fortress Classic action before the release of Team Fortress 2 should look no further than Fortress Forever. Long-time Fortress Forever observers will be aware that the mod has been shaping up as an incredibly faithful Team Fortress Classic tribute, and if their latest news post is any indication, we may be playing the mod sometime next month. Well... maybe.
Lastly, today we finished our third coordinated playtest in three weeks. What does this all mean, you might ask? It means we're on track to have a working Fortress Forever beta version ready during the first week of August (yes, August 2006). From that point on, all FF changes will be tweaks based on playtesting, bug fixes, minor model-related updates, additional maps, etc. More news to come on that later!

Valve announces details of Half-Life 2: Episode Two including news of Team Fortress 2

Valve founder, Gabe Newell, announced several details about Valve's future plans at EA's summer press event last week. Along with the planned release of Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Valve will also be releasing the anticipated Team Fortress 2 as well as a new single player mod currently named "Portal".
VALVE REVEALS NEW DETAILS ON EPISODE TWO
Includes Team Fortress 2 and Portal, Heading To PC and Next Gen Console
Bellevue, WA, July 14, 2006 - Valve, developer of the blockbuster series Half-Life and Counter-Strike, unveiled Team Fortress 2 and Portal, two new games to be included in its next release, Half-Life 2: Episode Two. In addition, the studio announced its plans to deliver these products, plus enhanced versions of Half-Life 2 and Episode One, in one tremendous package for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
"By evolving our development process to an episodic approach, we're able to reduce risk from things such as schedule and funding and invest more in new types of gameplay," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "This allows us to produce innovative titles such as Portal and Team Fortress 2 and deliver them in a timely fashion to customers along with Episode Two."
Episode Two advances the 16-million unit selling franchise, as Valve's trilogy of episodic single player releases continues the award-winning story of Half-Life 2. Armed with new weaponry and vehicles, Dr. Gordon Freeman must race through a countryside riddled with an increasingly feirce Combine threat.
Team Fortress 2, an all-new version of the title that spawned team based multiplayer action games, features the most advanced graphics of any Source-based game released to date. Players choose from a range of unique character classes such as medic, spy, sniper, or engineer and must work together to complete a variety of tactical objectives.
Portal is a new type of single player game that changes how players approach, manipulate, and surmise the possibilities in a given environment in a manner similar to how the Gravity Gun changed our approach to how an object may be leveraged in any given situation.
Team Fortress 2 and Portal will be included with all retail and Steam versions of Episode Two for the PC. In addition, these products plus Half-Life 2 and Episode One will be available in one tremendous offering for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

It'll turn your world upside-down

3D Realms, Human Head Studios and Venom Games have released Prey for the PC and Xbox 360. It marks the end of a grueling eleven-year process that has seen the game change developers, disappear from the public eye and emerge on an unsuspecting public. The game is available in retail stores as well as from the online distribution system Triton.
Originally announced in 1995, Prey was planned to coincide with the release of Duke Nukem Forever, another troubled game in development. Using cutting edge technology, 3D Realms showcased an impressive array of technological developments including portal technology, allowing rips in space to be created, moved and reshaped in real time. However, citing technical difficulties, the project was put on hold in 1999 and disappeared from the public eye. Nothing more was heard of Prey until 3D Realms regained the license from Infogrames in 2001. Even then, it was not until mid 2005 that 3D Realms acknowledged the existence and development of the "new" Prey.
Using an enhanced version of the Doom 3 engine, Prey features some of the most innovative gameplay to be seen in any FPS. The portal technology showcased in the original version of the game is still present, appearing even more unbelievable that its first incarnation. Innovative gameplay techniques such as Spirit Walking, Wall Walking and Deathwalk are also used to help, confuse and hinder the player.
Tommy is a down-on-his-luck garage mechanic, stuck in the middle of who-knows-where on some forgotten reservation, where Native Americans are tucked away out of sight, out of mind.
And then the unthinkable has happens! Earth becomes prey to the galaxy's largest predator, a space bound Texas-sized alien that's looking to satiate its hunger with the organic goodness that most populates Earth: Us. And the first course is a certain forgotten reservation.
A Spiritual Awakening
Tommy and his girlfriend have become prey, his grandfather killed, and hundreds of his tribal nation have been abducted through space-warping portals. Freeing himself, all Tommy cares about is saving Jenny. But the spirit of his grandfather beckons him to embrace his heritage, accept the ancient teachings, and prepare to battle the menace that threatens to destroy all the planet's
life. It's a choice between love and responsibility. It's a choice that cannot be made easily.
