New update structure debuts later this week

"Do you think he'll realise if we ditch him?"
Rand Miller and the devs from Cyan Worlds have announced that a new updating structure will debut in Myst Online: Uru Live later this week.

Instead of random updates, Cyan Worlds plans to introduce games updates in an "episodic" format. The idea is that all game updates for that month will be released within a single week in an effort for players to plan their schedules around the updates. The updates will include new content such as "new Ages, pages, clothing, character interaction, story revelations, artifacts and intrigue."

The debut episode will be called Scars, due to launch on May 19th, and will include the brand new Age of Minkata. To celebrate the arrival of the new chapter of the Myst saga, creator Rand Miller and a smattering of Cyan Worlds employees will take part in an in-game event. During this meet-and-greet session they will be interacting with other players, as well as taking part in a Q&A session, on May 24th at 9:00pm EST (US time) at "A Beginner's Bevin".

Sam's on the wrong side of the law... again

Even tanks enjoy a stroll in the park
Gamers Reports has picked up on a story from foreign magazine Magaza Pelaaja which reveals the title of the next game in the long-running Splinter Cell series will be Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Sam Fisher once again joins up with the Third Echelon group in an attempt to help out an old friend in danger. This time around Sam has thrown the old nightvision goggles away, with the Magaza Pelaaja cover story stating that the game is taking a Metal Gear Solid approach as a vast amount of the title will take place in the daylight hours. The cover story also offers some tantalising snippets on the game's intriguing backstory:

At the beginning of the game, Sam learns that Anna Grimsdottir (Anna is the person in charge of intelligence gathering for Third Echelon, and an old friend of Sam's) is in danger so Sam joins up with Third Echelon once more in order to help. Unfortunately, 3E is not what it used to be, and Sam frequently gets incomplete and bad intel, as well as the wrong equipment. All this, and the 3E bosses are in the middle of a political squabble for control. Sam eventually finds out that the threat is actually coming from inside Third Echelon itself, so he leaves and basically becomes a fuigitive. Looks like Sam is on the wrong side of the law once more, this time for real.

Gamers Reports

While it has only been announced for the Xbox360, it's a fairly safe bet that Sam's next adventure will see daylight on a PC near you.

Tomb Raider title to hit stores soon

"So... who wants to die first?"
Blue's News is reporting that Eidos has set a hard release date for Lara Croft's 10th anniversary title -- the aptly named Tomb Raider: Anniversary -- for both European and US territories.

Euro fans (which usually includes us Aussies) will be able to get their hands on everyone's favourite pixelated dame from the 25th of May. US gamers will have to wait a little bit longer, with Lara's release coming on June 5th.

As one of the most successful games of all time, selling over seven million copies worldwide, the original Tomb Raider was widely credited for revolutionizing adventure gaming. Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary offers players a brand new adventure, inspired by Lara's original adventure.

Created with an advanced version of the engine used for Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend, the gameplay mechanics, artificial intelligence and level puzzles of Tomb Raider: Anniversary are now more refined, in-depth and complex. The technology has also enabled all of the nostalgic environments from the original adventure to be envisioned on a much grander scale. Most importantly, Tomb Raider: Anniversary faithfully preserves the elements which made the original such a success.

"Houston, we have a parking space."
Telltale games will conclude the first season of the episodic experiment that is Sam & Max with the sixth instalment, Bright Side of the Moon.

"Over the past seven months, we've had fun developing the Season 1 story and seeing the fans' reactions," says Telltale CEO Dan Connors. "The finale stands on its own as a game, but it's going to be especially satisfying for the players who have been with us all season long." "Sam & Max: Season 1 is a testament to the fact that true episodic gaming can be successful," said Ricardo Sanchez, GameTap's vice president of content. "We look forward to continuing to work with Telltale on more groundbreaking projects."
