Now, everyone can be an Olympian!

This could be you...or Kenenisa Bekele
With the Beijing Olympics looming, this latest release from Sega is just in time to cash in on the event.

Beijing 2008, with a scheduled release in early July, has a massive lineup of Olympic-themed games. Players, or should I say, competitors, will be able to take part in pretty much every individual sport. But, there will be no chance to compete in team-based sports, such as basketball.

The game can be played offline, but according to Gamespot, it also allows competitors to play online, so that they can represent their countries, just like in the Olympics.

“Beijing 2008 will also allow up to eight players to represent their country online. A host will be able to set the number and type of events, or set the event type to random and let everyone compete in whatever event pops up.”

- Gamespot

So get your inner athlete on in the lead up to Beijing 2008 and do your country proud!

Along with two new rides

Everyone's favourite pocket rocket hits the TDU streets
Test Drive Unlimited players are breathing a sigh of relief as the long-awaited patch has finally arrived for the online racer. As an added bonus for gamers, Atari has added two completely new cars to thank TDU players for their patience: the Nissan Skyline R34 and the Audi RS4.

An official post on the Atari Forums highlights the improvements that are included in this patch:

• Anti Cheat measures implemented throughout the game
• Fully reworked save system. Profiles can not be corrupted anymore (note: players will not be able to load a corrupted savegame.)
• Fixed crashes and improved stability everywhere in the game
• Fixed bug when a 'New game' is created with an online profile (remanent information)
• Improved online code (better management of lobbies, optimization of freeride sessions, "isolate" feature of the free ride improved)
• Fixed various bugs in drive in (linked with scores and cars)
• Fixed traffic cars flying around
• Fixed bug on multi-threading code
• Fixed some crackering/stuttering sound issues
• Fixed bugs in photo mode
• Fixed some corruption on car graphics
• Improved volume balance and bass power

Performance issues with Saitek2600 controller: Atari is aware of significant loss of frame rate if the user removes the Saitek P2600 controller during game play.

Performance issue with MS Sidewinder Wheel: Atari is aware of low frame rate with MS Sidewinder. Please note that Microsoft no longer supports the use of such peripheral under Windows XP.

Football MMOG Announced

Massively multiplayer spreadsheets

They played like monkeys
Sports Interactive has announced its new sports management sim, Football Manager Live, a massively multiplayer evolution of the company's football sim franchise.

Up to 1000 managers can join each gameworld, creating their own teams, recruiting and trading players, and competing against each other in matches.

"With Football Manager Live, we're ripping up the script that says how online football management games should work" says Oliver Collyer. "We're creating something that is fun, challenging and sociable."

"Imagine a cross between Football Manager, fantasy sports and auctions sites and you are part of the way to understanding Football Manager Live" commented Miles Jacobson, Managing Director of Sports Interactive.

- Football Manager Live

It won't be the first time sports games have made the move into the MMOG space, with Ultimate Baseball Online and golfer Shot Online offering some models. Unlike those games, which are free to play in their basic forms, it sounds like Football Manager Live will have a monthly fee ("the price of a few pints per month").

A beta test is due to start in May this year, with the game set for release in March 2008.

Or Brian Lara if you prefer

Codemasters graciously covered Ponting's bald spot
Codemasters has released a demo of its approaching cricket sequel, Ricky Ponting International Cricket 2007. Despite its "Brian Lara" international branding, the demo eschews the West Indies in favour of a short (three over per side) match between England and Australia.

Ricky Ponting IC's major selling points are its multiplayer capabilities (which are not available in the demo, however) and the official ICC World Cup licence, just in time for the real World Cup which begins next week.

The 420 MB demo is available at Worthplaying, 3D Downloads, FileFront and Internode Games Network.
