New racing sim based on the WTCC

Must be a bad neighbourhood
Even though GTR 2 has not yet been released, racing game specialist SimBin has announced its next project. RACE is based on the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), and will feature the cars, drivers and locations from the 2006 WTCC season.

A very close collaboration with the organisation, car manufacturers, teams and drivers involved in the WTCC have provided SimBin with all the invaluable assets to make this production feasible. This covers all the data needed to be able to recreate the championship down to the smallest details on the cars, tracks and teams.

RACE promises everything from tough ("with a capital T") AI, to 26-player online racing, to fully functional windscreen wipers. No screenshots are available yet, but SimBin says more information, including a release date, will be revealed at the Leipzig Game Convention later this month. Until then, you can check out the game's website, which shows off the featured cars and tracks.

He's from Barcelona
EA SPORTS has announced the extension of its agreement with the F.A. Premier League for another four years, up to the 2010/11 season. The deal secures for EA exclusive rights to Premier League clubs, squads and players for use in the FIFA soccer game franchise.

"The Premier League is widely regarded as the most exciting in the world and we?re delighted to have been able to extend our current deal," said Dan Holman, Marketing Manager, EA UK. "The FIFA franchise has always delivered the most authentic game experience and our continuing relationship will enable us to maintain the high standards fans have come to expect from EA SPORTS."

Meanwhile, GameDaily BIZ has word on which soccer stars will have their distinctive faces on the FIFA 07 box covers. They will be tailored to different regions, and the general worldwide cover will feature FC Barcelona's Ronaldinho. So when you stumble into EB searching for FIFA 07 this October, look for the long, wavy locks.

New multiplayer mode heads the list of improvements

"Do you have the time?"
EA has announced the next edition of its FIFA soccer series, imaginatively titled FIFA 07. GamesIndustry.biz has the press release revealing all the details, including this bit about the new multiplayer mode called "Interactive Leagues", which synchronises online games with real matches:

Experience the future of online gaming as you play your games according to the real-world schedule. When they play, you play. Track your team's progress as the aggregate results determine your club's position in the league table. Now you actually take to the pitch for the glory of your club. This is the season where you make the difference!

- GamesIndustry.biz

Also promised in the 07 edition are new shooting mechanics and improved AI, as well an enhanced manager mode that lets players create their own teams.

FIFA 07 is due for current generation systems, including PC, this September, while a new version for the Xbox360 sporting a new engine will follow sometime later. There's no word if the PC will also see the fruits of the next gen labour, but it seems unlikely that EA would release two versions for a single system.

Major update adds new cars and tracks

Nice axle
Developer Image Space Inc (ISI) has released an update for rFactor, bringing the racing simulation to version 1150. ISI stresses that it's a full update, not a patch, and one look at the rather long feature list shows why: there are dozens of fixed bugs, AI and gameplay tweaks, and changes to multiplayer and modding. Most importantly, there are new cars and tracks:

Vehicles:
National Stock Car - Stock Car
2006 Rhez - Small FWD Sport Compact

Circuits:
Barcelona - Permanent Road Course
Jacksonville Speedway - High Banked Superspeedway
Lienz Rally Hillclimb - Rally Course
Montreal - Permanent Road Course
Northamptonshire - Permanent Road Course
Nuerburg - Permanent Road Course

- rfactor.net

You can grab the update in BitTorrent form or from one of the mirrors listed here. Fan site rFactor Central has several more mirrors listed.

The 700 MB update is the full version of rFactor, and ISI recommends players back up their existing rFactor folder and do a clean install to avoid any conflicts. If you're yet to try rFactor, you can download the file and install the game, but you'll need to purchase a key and activate it before playing.
