WoW: Wrath of the Lich King release date confirmed

So, brotha Lich King was just kicking back and chilling, ya know?...
The latest expansion pack to international MMO juggernaut World of Warcraft has been confirmed for a November 14 Down Under release.

While North America and Europe will get it on the 13, Australia, along with several other Pacific and south East Asian countries, will have to wait a day longer.

As well as confirming the November 13 release for Wrath of the Lich King, Blizzard also released details of the collector's edition package, for those who want to pony up the extra cash.

Included in the "limited Collector's Edition package" will be the game, a 208-page art book" featuring never-before-seen images from the game," a behind-the-scenes DVD, soundtrack CD, mouse pad, and two starter decks for World of Warcraft trading card game March of the Legion. No pricing information for any of the editions has been released.

The game set to challenge the Lich King

You feelin' lucky...punk?
Electronic Arts has announced the release date for its latest MMO. The game will be put head-to-head with Blizzard's WOW expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.

EA also announced that the game would cost USD 14.99 per month, with 3-monthly subscriptions and 6-monthly subscriptions also available.

"The game has been labelled by some as the best chance for a realistic challenger to Activision Blizzard's all-conquering MMO World of Warcraft, which recently announced an active subscriber base of 10.9 million players."

The Warhammer Online official Age of Reckoning website has already clocked over 700,000 beta applicants.

Warhammer: Age of Reckoning will be available from September 18 in North America, Europe and Oceania, but is available for pre-order now. Wrath of the Lich King is slated for a November '08 release.

Sony says all will enjoy this MMO

Look familiar?
DC Universe Online was announced last week at E3, and excited PC gamers tremendously. According to John Blakely, Vice President of development for Sony Online Entertainment, the game will have all the familiar MMO features, as well as familiar DC superheroes.

But, console gamers can also look forward to the game, as it has a moment-to-moment active combat system and skill-based gameplay.

"So while Blakely hopes the action-based combat will appeal to console gamers, he was quick to add that MMO players won’t be alienated. In fact, he thinks they’ll embrace it. He said, “The MMO guys will be a little uncomfortable with at first because it’s different. But [the combat system] is going to be something they’re going to get excited about learning about and getting into.”

A playable version of the game will be available at the Comic Con convention later this week.

It's nice that some developers haven't forgotten about us Down Under.

I can haz cheezburger?
Upcoming MMO Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is scheduled to be released in Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia during Spring of this year. This release date will coincide with the release dates for Europe and for North America.

In addition, a server will be established in the region, designed to cater specifically for Australian and New Zealand WAR players.

“Warhammer is a world-wide franchise with a strong following in Australia and New Zealand. By placing our own server down under and running customer service out of EA Mythic, we can ensure that when we launch WAR, Oceanic players will experience the same quality of game play and customer service as North American players” said Mark Jacobs, VP and General Manager of EA Mythic.

Warhammer Online, currently in closed beta, has been some time in the making, and focuses on the fantasy version of the popular Warhammer tabletop game.

Now available for early access users

In game graphics may vary
Finding a good MMO client mirror can be time consuming enough, but AusGamers have made our lives easier by providing early access users with one for Age of Conan.

If you're sick of battling the international crowds, you can start nabbing it locally from AusGamers It's a 14gb download divided into 8 smaller chunks to make it a little easier to download (well, that's the theory; I'd prefer one big download myself). Even IE users should be able to download each chunk with their inferior browser.

- AusGamers

The worst thing about MMOs is constantly downloading client updates, so anything that makes that easier should be welcomed.
