- New attachments for Naval units; do you scrap or upgrade those old ships
- Land units can now be built with brigades already attached.
- An Air Naval combat system that radically alters the combat balance
- New damage algorithms for the Air combat system, making organization more important and allowing air units to fight longer.

- Official Press Release

Now with diplomacy

Looks Risky
Matrix Games has announced a sequel to Gary Grisby's World At War, titled A World Divided. The sequel takes the turn-based global strategy game to a new level with the addition of diplomacy, espionage and "events":

In addition to the new features in Gary Grigsby's World At War: A World Divided is a completely new "what-if" scenario that carries forward from the end of the war into a conflict between the Western Allies and the Soviet Union. Russia's massive and experienced army is up against the West's well equipped forces and industrial might. In addition to simply starting with this scenario, players have the option to jump right from the end of their normal campaign game of WWII into this alternate history. This creates a whole new set of strategic choices as players will have to think into the future and plan for their war against the other super-power while still fending off the Axis forces.

- Matrix Games Press Release

No release date has yet been set for Gary Grisby's World at War: A World Divided, nor has any treatment been offered for reporters who develop RSI from typing the title too often.

The exclamation mark means it's exciting

Hexy Goodness
Hussar Games have released a single-player demo for For Liberty!, a turn-based strategy game, including one hypothetical scenario set during the American Revolutionary War. The demo is restricted to a six month play cycle, and limits the numbers and types of units available to the player. The official site provides a list of download mirrors.

The full version of For Liberty! features two campaigns: The American Revolution (against the British) and the lesser known 18th century Hungarian War of Independence (against Austria). The player can choose to play either side in both conflicts. According to the website, historical authenticity has been paramount in the development of the game:

Orders of battle were thoroughly researched in For Liberty! and all regiments have their proper historical names, locations and commanders for each campaign.

- For Liberty! Website

If you just can't get enough turn-based strategy with hexes, you may want to check out another game by Hussar Games named 1848, which is completely free, and focuses on another Hungarian war of independence. They sure do like their independence in Hungary.
