I do apologise for presenting such a crap first blog entry on Friday. I mean, pies? What the hell? But seriously, during Friday's mad rush with getting the site prepped for launch, all I could think about in those last few minutes before Go Time was pies. I'm strange like that.

Looking Back in Anger

Welcome to the Blogosphere, I’m pretty sure that’s what all the cool kids are calling it these days. This is my first foray into this strange world of electronic discourse… I guess it is kind of like a forum post except this time it comes with accountability (ie: Darren will break my legs if I don’t meet my obligations). Kind of scary really but I’m sure you’ll all bear with me while I get my bearings.

Who can keep up?

by: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it | vaguely related link: The End of Innocence | thanks: Prumpy, of course. Without whom EQ would be a much more confusing place (Ha!) and PCPP a colder and less welcoming one. Bless you, little dwarf.

I don’t mean to knock EQ. Even after all these years, it’s only just outside the top five MMO based on subscriptions. It beats SWG, Eve and City of Spandex. It’s really impressive, but there’s just something mind blowing about the announcement of its next expansion:

“In an ongoing commitment to introducing new features into EverQuest, The Serpent’s Spine introduces the Drakkin, the first new player race since the Frogloks were added to the game seven expansions ago,” said Chris Sturr, Senior Brand Manager, Sony Online Entertainment. “In addition to the new race, players of all levels will benefit from this expansion, as we are including content for levels 1 to 75.”

- EQ Station

For the love of all that’s holy … the Drakkin is the first new race for SEVEN expansions. Seven! That’s just since the last new race.

I’m imagining your epic party setting out. “Alright, now we need to go to Luclin…”
“Whoa, I’m out. I didn’t get Shadows of Luclin, I’ll meet you in Taelosia…”
“That’s Omens of War, right? Er … I’ll have to skip that.”
“No, that’s Gates of Discord, I bet your Barbarian that you own that one.”
“Oh right, so I’ll meet you on Luclin…”

If you are looking to get into EQ, the Platinum pack will get you the original game plus the first seven (yes, seven expansions) for $US19.95. That will just leave you four expansions off the pace…

Ah, the price of progress. Obviously, EQ is still a pioneer, but it obviously needs to pioneer a little more. Obviously, it only makes sense to sell the newest couple of expansions and let the players have the rest. As World of WarCraft shows, accessibility matters.

Here We Go

No more X-men 3 references, I promise.
Our wings have been bound too long. Like a non-understanding father with a syringe of anti-mutant gunk, we have cast off our no-website shackles, and soared out onto the electron stream.

Now we have the ability to beam out fragments of PC PowerPlay goodness every day. A little part of that will be this weird, little lockbox of games-related musings. I hope you enjoy what lies within.

Now, on to the games…

The First Post

by: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it | vaguely related link: Fear of a Black Hat | thanks: The creeping ennui and that sort of listlessness that sets in around three o'clock in the afternoon when I've already been playing a pre-release version of some hot game for five hours.

An epic moment in internet history as one man ... ooh, pie

Wow, so I've got a blog. And this is, like, my first post in it. What manner of craziness shall be contained herein? Who knows. But stay tuned as I update this thing whenever I come across something blog-worthy.

Hold on to your hats. Or if you don't wear a hat, hold on to someone who is wearing a hat. They won't mind.
