UK Manhunt 2 Rating Battle Continues Wed, 19 December 2007 BBFC to challenge Rockstar's appeal victory
The fate of Manhunt 2 in Britain is still up in the air, with the British Board of Film Classification applying for a judicial review of the affair. After the BBFC decided to ban Manhunt 2 in the UK for its violent content, developer Rockstar launched an appeal against the decision with the Video Appeals Committee. Earlier this month that appeal was successful, which put the ball back in the BBFC's court. The ratings board is standing by its original decision, though, and will challenge the appeal by applying for a judicial review of the Committee's verdict.
A statement from the Classification Board reads: "The BBFC is contesting the VAC judgement because in the Board's view, it is based on an approach to harm which is an incorrect interpretation of the Video Recordings Act.
"The VAC judgement, if allowed to stand, would have fundamental implications with regard to all the Board's decisions, including those turning upon questions of unacceptable levels of violence." - MCV The outcome here will have important implications for the British ratings system.
