Take-Two acquires Mafia developer

Mafia 2's well-dressed protagonist

After a long working relationship, Take-Two has acquired Czech developer Illusion Softworks, best known for the Hidden & Dangerous series, Mafia and Vietcong.

Following Take-Two's habit of recreating studios in its own image, the developer will be renamed 2K Czech, a name that could prompt a few puns.

"The acquisition of Illusion Softworks reflects our strategic focus on owning high-value intellectual property as we continue to expand our portfolio of triple-A titles," said Ben Feder, Chief Executive Officer of Take-Two.

~~Illusion~~ 2K Czech's next game will be a sequel to 2002's Mafia. Hopefully this acquisition suggests how much faith Take-Two has in the developer's work.
