Companies find even MORE ways to toot their own horns

Like one of these, but with a big huge GAME! sticker on the front.
AMD have announced a new initiative called AMD Game!, designed to help prospective PC gamers pick new systems that have been certified ready for high performance gaming.

Several other high profile companies, including Alienware, Acer, Logitech and Microsoft, have also put their weight behind the scheme.

"With the support of industry leaders in PC gaming, AMD GAME! ensures consumers don't need an enthusiast-level knowledge of PC hardware for an optimal gaming system," said Nigel Dessau, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, AMD.

"We in the PC industry owe consumers the same predictability, simplicity and affordability in finding a PC for gaming that the console industry currently provides."

The scheme, it seems, is being enacted in reaction to the high proliferation of systems, particularly notebooks, being sold with integrated graphics solutions. AMD GAME! systems will reportedly offer a more rounded, and gaming focused, build than a standard pre-built system, with their philosophy extending as far as the PSU and case.

However, AMD are obviously also using this as a marketing tool. Minimum requirements for a GAME! system certification are, according to ChannelWeb, an Athlon dual core CPU, ATI Radeon HD 3650, and either an ATI 770 or an Nforce 500 series motherboard.
