Windows gets all touchy-feely... *shudder*

"Where, oh WHERE, did my computer go?"
Microsoft has unveiled the latest piece of technology for implementation in Windows, known as 'Multi-touch'.

The touch-based technology, which they intend to use in their next operating system, will give users an alternative to the traditional keyboard, mouse or stylus.

After more than a decade of slow development, [Microsoft chairman Bill] Gates said new ways of interacting with computers other than keyboards and mice have matured to the point where they are ready to go mainstream.

"We are at an interesting juncture where almost all of the interaction is with the computer and mouse, today, and, over the years to come, the role of speech, vision, ink, all of those will become huge," Gates said.

Several programs, including a touch operated version of Paint, were demonstrated at the three day D: All Things Digital conference near San Diego.

The Windows 7 operating system is currently slated for a late 2009 release.
