Command & Conquer is the game that just keeps on kicking. Now, it's spinning off into a new franchise, Tiberium, and the first look right here in PCPP#149. We also take a gander at Frontlines: Fuel of War, plus 50 other hot games hitting shelves this year. We give you the low down on the world of Lan Cafes and where to find them, while simultaneously brining you all the latest reviews, including Guitar Hero III's encore on the PC. There is also no shortage of tech this time around. Is the 8800GS really worth your money? Read PCPP #149 to find out! Yes! Barely four weeks since the last issue of this marvellous magazine, another issue is mere days away from your hot, sweaty, greasy, nasty hands. Check it! Basically, there's a whole bunch of stuff about Tiberium, the new C&C FPS that we're not allowed to push too hard as a C&C game. It's a new franchise apparently. And incredibly, it actually sounds pretty damn good. We also take a long hard look at Frontlines: Fuel of War which aims to add something different to the team-based FPS. And for when too much FPS is barely enough, there's our epic Games of 2008 roundup, featuring 50 titles. Many with Haikus. Your favourites (as per AMW) are all there, plus a few others you may not have realised were on the way. TO LAN IS HUMAN
We go inside that strange, almost unknowable place some call the LAN Cafe. It's like an Internet Cafe except... smellier. Or so we though until we profiled a whole bunch of these establishments around the country. We explain where LAN Cafes have come from, where they're going, and what you should expect to get for your membership money.
SHREDDED CHEESE
Guitar Hero III is here on PC, and we've reviewed it. Well, Darren reviewed it really, as his last hurrah. Kind of fitting, actually...
Beyond Guitar Hero, in reviews this month we have Sudden Strike 3, The Golden Compass, Sam & Max: Moai Better Blues, Stranger, Aquaria (thanks ElPres!), Chessmaster: Grandmaster Edition, Football Manager 2008 and yes, even Disney Toontown. Then we reload Defcon and check out ten mods for Max Payne 2. BOUNDLESS ENTHUSIASM!
In Tech, Lindsay examines the ins and outs of Enthusiast System Architecture - just what the hell is it? - and reshuffles the new 8800 GS. He then dissects the ASUS Eee PC (not literally, sorry) and checks out a couple of extra 22" monitors that missed out on the roundup. And finally there's the Sanyo PLV-Z2000 LCD projector which at last allows you to appreciate 1080p the way nature intended: THREE METRES WIDE!
The DVD
As the picture shows you, the disc this issue includes The Witcher demo, Sam & Max, a huge roundup of indie games, and most importantly the latest build of Universal Combat absolutely free! We asked Derek Smart if we could have it - normally you have to download it from his website, and it bites your quota hard - and he said yes. So now it's yours too! Plus the usual array of tasty extras and the Community Bunker which just seems to get better with every issue. A hearty congratulations to all the guys and gals who put in their time and effort.
SUBSCRIBE TO WIN!
Still need bribes to subscribe? Most disappointing. But still, with Frontlines due for launch, THQ decided it would be a good idea to custom airbrush a PC and get us to fill it with awesome tech. The result is a $6000 behemoth that should satisfy the most demanding of skinflints.
NOTES ON AUSTRALIA'S MOST WANTED
Could we also take this opportunity to remind people they should vote for AMW every issue, because the prize is always up for grabs, and we need to see if games maintain their hype or if y'all are getting bored with them...
