If the awesome cover wasn't enough to get you to buy the mag, here are a few other reasons why you should. We have a massive feature on Starcraft 2, with Alan Moore heading out to Blizzard's offices to have a chat with Lead Developer Dustin Browder. We also look at the recent announcement that a fourth instalment in the Doom series will be hitting our screens. And, of course, the Top 100 is revealed to all... Trackmania holds a place dear to our hearts, so we just had to give the latest game a spin in our Reviews section. And there's also a massive feature on the Unity Engine, and the impact it has on games development. Did we mention Blu-ray? We may have done, but you'll have to read PCPP#153 to be sure! Look, we did our best with this cover. It was a hard image to work with. I'm sorry about the way it looks but... oh never mind. Here it is: Features/Previews
Anyway so obviously this issue is all about Starcraft II. We traveled to Blizzard's Irvine HQ for some hot hands-on access, and boy did we get it. Find out exactly how the developer is revitalising this most sacred of gaming franchises.
The other big feature in PCPP#153 is the Reader Top 100. We collated votes from more than 6000 people to create a Top 100 we think is truly definitive. A few surprises on there - and no spoilers in this thread please! We've also relented to pressure from Lindsay's Offroad Velociraptor Safari addiction and busted out a huge feature on the Unity Engine. Will the next generation of games be played inside a web browser, streamed from the net? At least some of them will. Reviews
Game reviews are thin on the ground this time, sadly, though it's good to see Trackmania get another update. Hey, but how about that Starcraft II?
Tech
In tech, Lindsay takes a fresh look at Blu-ray, now the war is over, and examines some of the quality gear emerging from the rubble of the conflict. And he's surprised to find one of the very best BD players is... a console?
Triple SLI gets some benchmark love, we give away a 9800GTX-powered PC (in fact the iBUYPOWER PC that won PCPP#152's roundup), but not before first upgrading it with Sony's top of the line Blu-ray burner. Sweet! The Disc
On the disc we have some tasty HD Starcraft II footage, the entire 4GB Granado Espada client, Trackmania Nations Forever, and the original GTA, just for fun. Plus a bunch of demos and of course THE MIGHT OF THE BUNKER!
PCPP#153. It's about the best games of all time, plus the most exciting games of tomorrow. Enjoy! |
