Halogen Gets "Foxed" By Microsoft Monday, 11 September 2006 Do you hear that, Master Chief? That is the sound of inevitability
![]() RIP Halogen. Despite being in production for close to three years, the Halo-inspired Command & Conquer Generals mod Halogen has finally been "Foxed" by Microsoft.
For the last three years, we've worked incessantly to bring you the best Halo mod that we could. There have been a lot of ups and downs, but somehow Halogen has always managed to come out kicking. The problem with using copyrighted intellectual property as a base for a fan project is that you're very susceptible to legal action. We always figured that since Halogen was such a different take on the Halo franchise, we might manage to make it without incident. That changed today.
- Halogen Halogen was undoubtedly shaping-up as a quality mod, and while the team knew they were playing with fire, the timing of this action seems to have taken both the fans and the development team by surprise. It took three years to be foxed? Three years of development wasted? The term 'foxed' originates from an incident in 1994, where 20th Century Fox ordered mod maker Justin Fischer to cancel his Aliens-based total conversion project of Doom. 20th Century Fox believed that Justin had violated their franchise copyright, and they felt the mod would directly compete with their own upcoming Aliens game. The full news release from the development team can be found on the Halogen website.
