Alan Wake Works Up A Storm Thu, 28 September 2006 Remedy shows off their newest baby at IDF 2006 ![]() The quiet before the storm Fully utilising the Core 2 Quad, Remedy demonstrated the game in action to the public for the very first time. Simply put, Alan Wake is a visual treat. Now 18 months since it was last seen in action by gaming press, Alan Wake uses multiple cores to stream data in the background for new areas and output to the graphics card. It was also revealed that an entire core is used for physical calculations -- this was demonstrated as Remedy proceeded to create a tornado in the middle of a settlement. Remedy also showcased several lighting solutions they have been working on, including full dynamic and volumetric shadowing in large environments. The environment was also manipulated to quickly transfer between states of day, night and other environmental effects. Alan Wake is also rumoured to be at the X06 conference in Barcelona, where it is expected to be shown and fully playable. The release date for the game is currently estimated for this Autumn. Xboxyde is currently hosting a video of the Intel Core 2 Quad demonstration, where parts of Alan Wake are showcased. The Alan Wake theme and picture pack is also available for purchase on the Xbox Marketplace. The theme pack is 150 points while the picture pack is 80 points.
