Inspires change to CS:S market economy

The source of the sky-rocketing CS:S economy
Anyone who has updated Steam over the weekend would know that tracking of the Counter-Strike economy has resulted in a huge price spike for the Desert Eagle pistol. In the last week players have found the Desert Eagle to cost upwards of $1200.

The folk at Valve have realised that this enormous price fluctuation is due to the fact that the Deagle pretty much pwns all the other pistols in the game. To combat this situation, Valve will be making some tweaks to the the Five Seven, P228, and Dual Elites in an effort to make them more balanced and effectively drive the market price down. Considering that the Deagle has a huge fanbase, this may prove to be a tough challenge for Valve.

It's been six weeks now since the community's purchase habits began driving the pricing of weapons in Counter-Strike: Source. As many of you have probably noticed, the price of the Desert Eagle has been increasing steadily and is now somewhat out of control. This is happening because the Desert Eagle is considerably more useful than the rest of the pistols -- purchasing one of the others is not a smart buy. We'll address this by making the Five Seven, P228, and Dual Elites more effective. The prices of all pistols have been reset to their previous defaults in preparation for this change.

- Official Press Release

Currently the price of pistols in the game has reverted back to the default setting, with no official date for when the pistol update will arrive.
