Physics engine creator now part of the Intel family

Some shocking physics in this game
This press release announces that Intel has signed a deal to acquire Havok, the physics technology provider. The agreement will make Havok a wholly owned subsidiary of Intel, but the announcement stresses that the Irish company will operate independently.

"Havok is a proven leader in physics technology for gaming and digital content, and will become a key element of Intel's visual computing and graphics efforts," said Renee J. James, Intel vice president and general manager of Software and Solutions Group. "Havok will operate its business as usual, which will allow them to continue developing products that are offered across all platforms in the industry."

Gamers will be familiar with Havok's expertise from games like BioShock, Half-Life 2 and Oblivion, but the company's physics technology has also been used for special effect work in films like The Matrix and Troy.

And as a testament to Havok physics, here's 10,000 watermelons falling from Oblivion's sky. Why not.
