InstantAction to focus on browser-based action games

Play. With others. While talking.
IAC, a large conglomerate that operates brands like Ticketmaster, Match.com and Ask.com, has acquired a majority stake in the standard-bearer of independent game development, GarageGames.

The offspring of the partnership is InstantAction.com, a new games portal that will provide browser-based games with "high-end visuals". The announcement stresses that InstantAction is "core-oriented", which is a quick way of saying it's not a casual games website. There'll be no BoozleBopple Deluxe here.

"Working with IAC, we are now able to truly fulfill our vision to enable developers both large and small to deliver innovative ideas on an exciting new accessible platform for gamers," says [GarageGames CEO Josh] Williams. "The InstantAction Fund will invest in talented teams who want to bring high-quality action gaming to everyone in the world through the internet."

3D games in a web browser are not terribly common at the moment, so it'll be interesting to see what they come up with. Not needing to download large files or install games locally could bring to action gaming the convenience and quick entry that's made casual gaming so popular.

The InstantAction.com website is just a placeholder at the moment, but you can sign up for announcements if you're keen.
