The first game designer to get the BAFTA's highest accolade

The industry's best spokesperson
The Sims and Spore designer Will Wright will be inducted into the BAFTA fellowship next week, at the British Academy Video Games Awards.

Wright will be the first game designer to be given the accolade, which will put him on a list alongside names like Alfred Hitchcock, Ingmar Bergman and Sir Alec Guinness.

"Will's immense, creative body of work and his continued contribution to the industry make him a most worthy recipient of the Fellowship and being such a pioneer, we are thrilled that he will be the first person to receive this honor," said Academy chairman Hilary Bevan Jones.

Wright will also deliver a speech on "Interactive Entertainment - the Oldest Art Form" on 24 October as part of the London Games Festival.

And in other "did you know" Will Wright news, Wired has a story about Wright's 1980 victory in an illegal coast-to-coast road race in the US. Who knew he had a wild side?
